Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode have reacted to the attack on former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany.

Ekweremadu was attacked by individuals identified as members or supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) while attending an event in Germany.

Reacting to the incident, Fayose condemned the attack and described it as unacceptable.

He said Ekweremadu had distinguished himself as a defender of democracy and argued that those responsible for the attack had acted in a manner inconsistent with civilised conduct.

Fayose described the incident as an assault not only on Ekweremadu but also on the dignity of Igbo people and Nigerians generally.

He strongly criticised the attackers, saying their actions showed a lack of appreciation for the former Deputy Senate President’s political contributions.

Fani-Kayode also reacted to the incident, describing it as a warning to political leaders in southern Nigeria.

He said the attack reflected growing anger among some people in the region and argued that political leaders should pay greater attention to the grievances of the citizens they represent.

According to Fani-Kayode, the incident should serve as an “eye-opener” to politicians across southern Nigeria.

He urged political leaders to defend the interests of their people and address issues generating dissatisfaction rather than ignore growing public frustration.

Fani-Kayode described Ekweremadu as a friend and brother but maintained that the attack demonstrated the extent of anger among some supporters of separatist movements.

The reactions added to widespread condemnation of the assault, while also renewing debate over political representation, regional grievances and the growing tension between some political leaders and separatist groups in the South-East.
