Suspected Hoodlums Attack #EndSARS Protesters in Abuja, Set Cars Ablaze
Suspected hoodlums on Sunday attacked #EndSARS protesters in Abuja, setting some vehicles on fire and forcing demonstrators to flee the area.
A witness said the incident occurred at about 6pm around Kabusa Junction in the Apo district of the Federal Capital Territory.
The protesters had gathered at Dan Kogi, a junction close to a Shoprite mall, where they blocked the road and displayed placards as part of the demonstrations against police brutality.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers approached the protesters from different directions, causing panic as many demonstrators ran for safety.
The violence also created tension in the surrounding area, prompting traders in a nearby market to close their shops earlier than usual.
The incident was one of several attacks reported against #EndSARS protesters in Abuja, where demonstrators had previously faced confrontations involving both security personnel and suspected thugs.
The latest attack came a day after the death of Anthony Onome, an Abuja resident who had reportedly been stabbed while participating in an #EndSARS march in the Kubwa area.
Onome was taken to the National Hospital in Abuja after the attack but later died from his injuries.
The series of violent incidents heightened concerns over the safety of demonstrators and intensified calls for authorities to protect peaceful protesters while investigating attacks linked to the #EndSARS demonstrations. as reported by The Cable
