Buhari to Nigerians: Re-Elect Me, I Will Remain True to My Principles
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Nigerians to support his re-election, assuring voters that he would remain consistent in his approach to governance, particularly in the areas of security, the economy and the fight against corruption.
Buhari gave the assurance during an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Addressing supporters at the Aper Aku Stadium, the President said he would not abandon the principles that had guided his administration since taking office.
“I assure you, I am not going to change. I am going to be consistent and remain steadfast. Anyone who abuses public trust will be exposed and dispossessed,” Buhari said.
He thanked supporters who attended the rally despite the weather, saying the large turnout showed that the people of Benue State believed in the programmes and policies of his administration.
Buhari recalled that during the 2015 campaign, he had made commitments in three major areas: security, the economy and the fight against corruption.
He maintained that his administration had recorded progress in those areas and promised that recovered public funds and assets would be used to support infrastructure development.
According to the President, proceeds from recovered assets would be invested in projects such as roads, railways and electricity.
Buhari also said his administration had made gains in the fight against Boko Haram, arguing that no Nigerian territory was under the control of the insurgent group at the time.
He acknowledged that corruption remained a major challenge but promised to continue the fight without compromise.
The President further assured Nigerians that adequate security would be provided during the forthcoming general elections to ensure that the polls were free, fair and credible.
Akume Criticises Benue PDP Government
Also speaking at the rally, former Benue State Governor and APC leader George Akume criticised the PDP-led government in the state, accusing it of failing to sufficiently improve the welfare of residents.
Akume commended Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign and said the President had taken important steps to address what he described as years of misuse of public resources.
He also called for increased security presence in Benue State ahead of the elections and expressed confidence that APC supporters were prepared for the polls.
Oshiomhole Backs Jime for Governor
APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole urged residents of the state to support Emmanuel Jime, the party’s governorship candidate.
Other prominent APC figures at the rally included Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Audu Ogbeh, Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong and several party leaders from Benue State.
