West Ham Launch Investigation After Mohamed Salah Suffers Alleged Abuse
West Ham United have launched an investigation after video footage emerged showing alleged abuse directed at Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah during a Premier League match at the London Stadium.
The Egypt international was filmed from a section of home supporters while taking a corner during Monday’s game.
The footage appeared to capture offensive comments aimed at Salah, including remarks targeting his Muslim faith.
The person who posted the video on social media condemned the incident and called for stronger action against discriminatory behaviour at football matches.
West Ham said the club operates a zero-tolerance policy towards abusive or violent conduct and promised severe sanctions against anyone found responsible.
The club added that any supporter identified as having committed an offence could be reported to police and face a lifetime ban from the London Stadium.
The Metropolitan Police also confirmed that officers were reviewing the footage.
Police said no arrests had been made at that stage and that enquiries were continuing.
Salah was one of the Premier League’s leading scorers during the 2018/19 season and had continued to play a key role in Liverpool’s title challenge.
The match ended 1-1, a result that prevented Liverpool from extending their advantage significantly at the top of the table.
The incident came amid wider concerns over racist and discriminatory abuse in English football, with government and football authorities facing increasing pressure to address misconduct by supporters.
