Ondo Governorship: Election Will Be Peaceful and Bloodless, APC Chairman Assures
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, has assured residents that the October 10 governorship election will be peaceful and free of violence.
Adetimehin, in a statement issued in Akure, sought to allay fears that the state could witness a repeat of the political violence associated with the 1983 governorship crisis.
He said the forthcoming election would be conducted peacefully and urged political actors to abide by the rules.
“I want to assure our people that the state would record a bloodless gubernatorial election next weekend,” Adetimehin said.
He appealed to candidates, supporters and other stakeholders to place the safety and wellbeing of residents above partisan interests.
The APC chairman also urged voters to support Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, arguing that a second term would allow the administration to consolidate its industrialisation and economic development programmes.
According to him, Akeredolu remained the best candidate in the race and deserved another mandate from the electorate.
Adetimehin also used the occasion to congratulate Nigerians, particularly residents of Ondo State, on the country’s 60th Independence anniversary.
He said Nigeria had made progress in several areas despite continuing economic, political and social challenges.
The APC chairman called on citizens to contribute to the strengthening of democracy and urged governments at all levels to deepen engagement with different sections of society in order to promote peace and social harmony.
