The All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council in Kogi State has expressed confidence that Governor Yahaya Bello will secure a decisive victory in the November 16, 2019 governorship election.

Chairman of the council’s Media and Publicity Committee, Kingsley Fanwo, said in a statement issued in Lokoja that the level of support for Bello across the state indicated that the governor was strongly positioned for re-election.

Fanwo claimed that support for the APC candidate had grown across Kogi East, Central and West, adding that the party believed the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was facing increasing political pressure ahead of the election.

According to him, the campaign council, led by Senator Smart Adeyemi, included several prominent political figures in the state.

He also cited the participation of James Abiodun Faleke and other aspirants who had contested the APC governorship ticket with Bello as evidence of growing unity within the ruling party.

Fanwo further claimed that the PDP had lost several leaders and supporters to the APC, saying the defections had strengthened the ruling party’s position ahead of the poll.

He maintained that the APC would base its campaign on what it considered the achievements of the Bello administration rather than allowing the opposition to determine the direction of political debate.

Among the achievements highlighted by the campaign organisation were investments in education, healthcare, road infrastructure and agriculture, including the development of a major rice mill.

Fanwo argued that the governor’s record in office was sufficient to secure him another term.

The campaign council also appealed to APC supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electioneering period.

“We urge our supporters to make peace the fulcrum of our campaign as the governor abhors violence,” Fanwo said, while also calling on rival political parties to support peaceful elections.

He thanked residents who had declared support for Bello and said the enthusiasm of women, youths and other supporters showed that the governor retained significant backing across the state.

Fanwo acknowledged that the administration was not perfect but maintained that its achievements would ultimately shape how Bello’s tenure was remembered.

The APC campaign organisation consequently expressed confidence that Bello would record a strong performance at the polls and secure re-election as governor of Kogi State.
