The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has vowed not to repeat what it described as mistakes made during previous efforts to achieve an independent Biafran state, while calling on its members and supporters around the world to remain committed to the movement.

The group made the declaration in a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful.

According to the statement, IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu remained determined to continue educating and mobilising supporters of the Biafran cause internationally.

The group said Kanu’s engagements in cities across Australia and New Zealand formed part of efforts to increase awareness and support for its campaign for self-determination.

IPOB claimed that its agitation was receiving growing attention and acceptance in different parts of the world.

The organisation also said it was involved in consultations with local and international stakeholders, influential individuals and other groups through what it described as diplomatic outreach.

It added that details of some of those engagements had deliberately been kept out of the public domain.

“One thing is certain; this IPOB-led agitation for Biafra independence will not repeat the mistakes of the past,” the group said.

IPOB also urged its supporters living in Australia to prepare for discussions with Kanu during his visit.

The group maintained that its campaign would continue through mobilisation, public enlightenment and engagement with supporters and stakeholders as it pursued its stated objective of an independent Biafran state.
