Four Candidates Shortlisted for Egypt National Team Coaching Job
The Egyptian Football Association has shortlisted four candidates for the vacant position of national team coach following the departure of Hector Cuper.
The federation said the candidates under consideration are Spaniard Quique Sanchez Flores, Mexican coach Javier Aguirre, Bosnia’s Vahid Halilhodzic and Colombia’s Jorge Luis Pinto.
The selection process is being handled by a committee made up of former Egyptian internationals Magdi Abdelghani and Hazem Emam, alongside former international referee Essam Abdel-Fattah.
Egypt are searching for a successor to Cuper after his contract expired following the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The Pharaohs endured a disappointing tournament, losing all three of their group matches.
Cuper had taken charge of Egypt in March 2015, replacing Shawky Ghareeb.
Despite the poor World Cup campaign, the Argentine helped Egypt qualify for the tournament for the first time in 28 years.
The federation is expected to choose from the four shortlisted coaches as it begins preparations for the national team’s next phase.
