Chelsea Suffer Worst Defeat in 26 Years as Manchester City Humiliate Blues
Chelsea suffered their heaviest defeat in 26 years as Manchester City demolished the Blues 6-0 in a one-sided Premier League encounter.
The emphatic victory sent Manchester City back to the top of the Premier League table, while Chelsea dropped to sixth place behind Arsenal.
Pep Guardiola’s side dominated the match from the opening stages, exposing Chelsea’s defensive weaknesses and leaving Maurizio Sarri’s team with one of their most embarrassing results in recent history.
The defeat added to a difficult period for Chelsea, whose performances had come under increasing scrutiny.
While the 6-0 loss was a major setback, it was not the biggest defeat in Chelsea’s history.
The London club suffered an 8-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the First Division in 1953.
Chelsea were also beaten 6-2 by Stoke City in a League Cup third-round replay in October 1974.
In European competition, Barcelona defeated Chelsea 5-1 in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final in April 2000.
However, the heavy loss to Manchester City stood out as one of Chelsea’s worst league performances in decades and increased the pressure on Sarri as the club battled to secure a Champions League place.
