President Muhammadu Buhari is meeting with representatives of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja amid the deepening crisis within the ruling party.

The meeting comes less than 24 hours after Senate President Ahmad Lawan met with Buhari over the internal disagreements threatening the stability of the APC.

Those attending the meeting include the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu; Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong; and Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru.

The discussions are believed to centre on efforts to resolve the leadership crisis within the party and prevent further divisions among its major stakeholders.

Bagudu had previously made efforts to mediate in the dispute between Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and the suspended APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

Those reconciliation efforts, however, failed to resolve the disagreement.

The latest meeting with Buhari is therefore seen as another attempt by senior APC leaders to find a solution to the crisis and restore unity within the ruling party.
