President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock and sadness over the deadly attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka during Easter celebrations.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari condemned the attacks and extended Nigeria’s condolences to the government and people of Sri Lanka.

On behalf of the Nigerian government and people, the President sympathised with the families of those who lost their lives and wished those injured in the attacks a speedy recovery.

Buhari said Nigeria understood the devastating consequences of terrorism, having experienced similar acts of violence.

“We stand with victims of terrorism all over the world because we know and understand this harrowing inhuman activity,” the President said.

He assured Sri Lankans of Nigeria’s solidarity during the difficult period and urged the country’s authorities to ensure that those responsible for the attacks were brought to justice.

Buhari maintained that perpetrators of such acts of violence should not be allowed to escape accountability, while reaffirming Nigeria’s opposition to terrorism in all its forms.
