Adeyemi Urges Okun Kinsmen to Support Governor Bello’s Re-Election Agenda
Senator Smart Adeyemi has urged his kinsmen in Kogi West Senatorial District to support the re-election bid of Governor Yahaya Bello, saying backing the governor could strengthen the zone’s chances of producing a future governor.
Adeyemi made the appeal while speaking at the first Kogi West Political Summit.
The former senator, who represented Kogi West in the Sixth and Seventh National Assemblies, argued that supporting Bello, who hails from Kogi Central, would give the people of Kogi West a stronger basis to negotiate for a future power shift to their zone.
According to Adeyemi, Bello was in the best position to support the aspiration of Kogi West to produce a governor.
“Yahaya Bello stands in the best position to guarantee power shifting to the West and so deserves our support to make our dream come true,” Adeyemi said.
Adeyemi, who served as Director-General of the Bello/Onoja Campaign Council, maintained that political cooperation with the governor would better position the Okun people in future negotiations over the governorship of the state.
Also speaking at the summit, National President of the Okun Development Association, Femi Mokikan, said he would not dictate to the people who they should vote for.
He, however, urged them to consider the long-standing aspiration of Kogi West to produce a governor and carefully assess which political choice would best protect the interests of the Okun people.
Mokikan said residents should think critically about the candidates and determine who would be more likely to advance the political and developmental interests of the zone.
He further praised the Bello administration’s approach to the distribution of political appointments and infrastructure, describing it as relatively fair to different parts of the state.
According to him, since the creation of Kogi State 28 years earlier, Bello’s administration had distinguished itself in what he described as the equitable distribution of infrastructure and government positions.
The speakers therefore urged the people of Kogi West to weigh both their immediate political interests and their longer-term aspiration to produce a governor as they considered their choices in the forthcoming governorship election.
