Cristiano Ronaldo Fined €3.2m in Spanish Tax Evasion Case
Cristiano Ronaldo has reached a settlement with Spanish tax authorities over a tax evasion case, with prosecutors saying he will pay a €3.2 million fine and receive a 24-month prison sentence.
The Portuguese football star was accused of evading about €5.7 million in taxes, allegations he had previously denied.
Under the terms of the settlement, Ronaldo is not expected to serve time in prison because, under Spanish law, first-time offenders receiving sentences of less than two years can usually have them suspended.
In addition to the €3.2 million fine, Ronaldo is expected to pay the €5.7 million in outstanding taxes and about €1 million in accrued interest.
The settlement also includes an additional daily fine linked to the suspended prison sentence.
The total financial cost of the case was expected to rise significantly once other penalties and payments were included, with reports estimating the overall amount at around €19 million.
The case formed part of a wider crackdown by Spanish tax authorities on footballers and other high-profile figures over the handling of income, including earnings from image rights.
