The Edo State Government has thrown its weight behind the Edo Cycling Tour scheduled to hold from August 18 to 23, 2018, as part of efforts to promote tourism and revive cycling in the state.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Ehi Braimah, said in Lagos that Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu had pledged the support of the state government for the event.

The cycling tour is being organised by Neo Media in partnership with the Nigeria Cycling Federation and is expected to promote domestic tourism while encouraging renewed interest in competitive cycling.

Braimah said the initiative would also help showcase Edo State’s tourism potential to participants and visitors.

According to him, the deputy governor met with the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora, Osaze Osemwengie-Ero, and organisers of the event before endorsing the programme.

He said the government considered the tour a valuable platform for promoting tourism and restoring the state’s traditional interest in cycling.

“Edo State is the home of tourism, and to promote domestic tourism, Neo Media, in conjunction with the Nigeria Cycling Federation, is partnering the state government,” Braimah said.

He added that the support of the state government would strengthen preparations for the race and help position the event as an important sporting and tourism attraction.
