Asaba 2018 AAC: Delta Senior Citizen Hails Commissioning of Stephen Keshi Stadium
A 92-year-old Delta State senior citizen, Oguefi Jiduche Onyia, has expressed delight at witnessing the commissioning and official opening of the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
Onyia, who had worked with organisations including UAC and had spent years contributing to his community, said being alive to witness activities connected with the African Athletics Championships gave him a special sense of fulfilment.
He attended the athletics test event at the newly completed stadium and described the occasion as memorable.
“Seeing the opening ceremony was a very special day for me. Now I am fulfilled. I trekked from Okpanam to the stadium,” Onyia said.
Despite his age, Onyia was described as active and able to move around without the aid of a walking stick.
He also praised Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for completing the Stephen Keshi Stadium ahead of the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships.
The stadium was prepared to host athletes from across the continent for the Asaba 2018 championships, scheduled to bring together some of Africa’s leading track and field competitors.
