Ronaldo Returns to Turin After Coronavirus Lockdown
Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Italy after spending almost two months in coronavirus lockdown in his native Portugal.
The Portuguese star arrived at Turin Airport with his family after travelling by private jet from the island of Madeira.
Ronaldo was expected to spend two weeks in quarantine before being allowed to rejoin his Juventus teammates.
The 35-year-old had featured in Juventus’ 2-0 Serie A victory over Inter Milan on March 8, shortly before the Italian football season was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.
He later returned to Madeira to be close to his mother, Dolores, who had suffered a stroke.
Juventus recalled their overseas players after Serie A clubs were permitted to resume individual training.
The decision by Italian authorities to allow players back at club training facilities provided fresh hope that the 2019-20 season could eventually resume.
Juventus were leading the Serie A table by one point over Lazio as they pursued a ninth consecutive league title.
The club had yet to announce an official date for the resumption of full training but had begun carrying out medical tests on players at its training centre in Turin.
Federico Bernardeschi, Juan Cuadrado, Carlo Pinsoglio, Leonardo Bonucci and Aaron Ramsey were among the first players to report for testing.
Juventus were also awaiting the return of Matthijs de Ligt and Blaise Matuidi, while Gonzalo Higuain remained in Argentina, where he had travelled to be with his ill mother.
