Mikel, Balogun and Moses Simon Join Super Eagles’ Training Camp
John Obi Mikel, Leon Balogun and Moses Simon were among the early arrivals at the Super Eagles’ training camp ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mikel’s arrival marked his return to the national team after last featuring for Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The former Chelsea midfielder had recently completed a short-term spell with Middlesbrough after the Championship club failed to secure promotion to the Premier League.
Brighton defender Balogun and Levante winger Moses Simon also reported to camp as preparations intensified for the tournament in Egypt.
Other players who arrived early included Jamilu Collins of SC Paderborn and Porto defender Chidozie Awaziem.
Coach Gernot Rohr named a 25-man provisional squad for the tournament, which would later be reduced to the final list.
The Super Eagles were scheduled to face Zimbabwe in a friendly in Asaba on June 8 before travelling to Egypt the following day.
Nigeria would also play Senegal in another warm-up match in Ismailia before beginning their AFCON campaign against Burundi on June 22 in Alexandria.
The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, will be aiming for another strong showing at the tournament.
