Klopp has transformed Liverpool into an amazing team – Benayoun
Former Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has praised Jurgen Klopp for transforming the Reds into an “amazing” side, saying their teamwork and commitment have made them one of the most impressive teams in Europe.
Liverpool were 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League and needed just two more victories to secure their first English top-flight title in 30 years.
Klopp had already guided the club to Champions League glory, and Benayoun, who played for Liverpool between 2007 and 2010, said he was delighted with the progress the team had made under the German manager.
“I’m happy to see it. It’s amazing to see where Liverpool are at the moment,” Benayoun told LFCTV’s Legends in Lockdown.
The former Israel international said Liverpool’s greatest strength was their collective approach rather than relying heavily on individual stars.
“The most special thing is you feel they are a team. Everyone knows what they’re doing on the pitch,” he said. “The star of the team is the team itself, one unit. They play together.”
Benayoun also praised the intensity and commitment shown by Liverpool’s players, particularly their coordinated pressing.
“I don’t see any other team in Europe that has this commitment from the goalkeeper to the striker to work together, to press,” he said.
“When they decide to press, they press everyone. No one can play against them. It’s amazing.”
Benayoun gave much of the credit for Liverpool’s transformation to Klopp, describing the manager as the major difference between the current side and teams from previous years.
“I really enjoy watching them,” he said. “Hopefully they will continue like this and make us proud.”
Liverpool were preparing to resume their Premier League title challenge following the coronavirus-enforced suspension of football.
Their Champions League title defence, however, had already ended after Atletico Madrid eliminated them in the round of 16 shortly before the shutdown.
