Chelsea Midfielder Danny Drinkwater Charged with Drink-Driving
Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been charged with drink-driving after his car was involved in a crash following a late-night outing.
The 29-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Monday after police responded to what they described as a one-vehicle incident near his home in the Manchester area.
Drinkwater was later released on unconditional bail and was due to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on May 13.
The former England international, who won three caps, was a key member of Leicester City’s remarkable Premier League title-winning team in 2016.
He joined Chelsea in 2017 for about £35 million but struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team player.
Reports said Drinkwater and a female passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash.
The midfielder had not played a competitive match for Chelsea for more than a year at the time of the incident.
