Chelsea’s Eden Hazard Happy but Tired After Busy Run of Matches
Eden Hazard has admitted he is feeling the effects of a demanding schedule but insists he remains happy and enjoying his football at Chelsea.
The 27-year-old played a key role as Belgium finished third at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia before returning to help Chelsea make an unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
Hazard had scored seven league goals as Chelsea went 12 matches without defeat under Maurizio Sarri.
The Belgian missed three matches with a back injury but completed 90 minutes for the first time since October 20 during Chelsea’s goalless draw with Everton.
The result left Chelsea third in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Manchester City and two behind Liverpool heading into the international break.
“Believe me, I am tired,” Hazard said. “But I think I’m in good condition to play.”
He added that a lengthy ankle injury the previous season may have helped him remain relatively fresh despite the heavy workload.
Hazard also said his strong form was linked to his enjoyment on the pitch.
“When you are happy on the pitch, you can try some things. I’m just enjoying myself,” he said.
Chelsea were due to resume their Premier League campaign against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Hazard’s future at Stamford Bridge remained a subject of speculation, with his contract due to expire in 2020 and continued links with Real Madrid.
However, the midfielder maintained that he remained happy at Chelsea.
“For the last seven years with Chelsea, I have always enjoyed myself,” Hazard said.
“When I am on the pitch, I try to give happiness, first to myself and then to the fans who are watching the game.”
He added that Chelsea’s strong form had contributed to his own performances and said he was enjoying his football at the club.
