CAF U-20 AFCON: Flying Eagles Captain Targets Title, World Cup Qualification
Flying Eagles captain Ikouwem Utin has said Nigeria’s next objective is to win the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger Republic and secure qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
Utin made the statement after the Flying Eagles recorded an emphatic 5-0 victory over Mauritania in their CAF U-20 AFCON qualifying match.
The result strengthened Nigeria’s push to return to the continental tournament after missing out on the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
According to the captain, the team is determined to make the most of its qualification by competing for the African title and earning a place at the World Cup.
“Our target is to go to Niger and win the Nations Cup. Of course, qualification for the FIFA World Cup is our major target,” Utin said.
The Flying Eagles will now turn their attention to the continental championship, where they will hope to secure one of Africa’s qualification places for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
