The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has announced plans to challenge the Court of Appeal judgment affirming the election of Governor Aminu Tambuwal at the Supreme Court.

Speaking with journalists in Sokoto shortly after the ruling, a member of the APC legal team, Bashir Jodi, said the party believed it had strong grounds to appeal the decision.

The Court of Appeal had upheld Tambuwal’s election as governor after dismissing the appeal filed by the APC and its governorship candidate.

The four-member panel, led by Justice Hussein Mukhtar, delivered a unanimous judgment, ruling that the appeal lacked merit.

Reacting to the decision, Jodi said the legal contest was not over and urged APC supporters not to be discouraged.

“Legally, the battle has just begun and there is no cause for alarm. We have very strong reasons to appeal this judgment to the Supreme Court,” he said.

Jodi expressed confidence that the party could still succeed when the matter reaches the apex court.

Also reacting, APC leader in Sokoto State and former governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, said the party’s lawyers would carefully study the Court of Appeal judgment before taking the next legal step.

Wamakko urged supporters to remain calm and peaceful while the judicial process continues.

“As Muslims, with a strong faith in God, we should always be grateful to Him in our struggles to seek redress,” he said.

He also appealed to party members to remain law-abiding, avoid violence and continue to have confidence in the legal process.

Wamakko thanked APC supporters across Sokoto State for what he described as their sustained loyalty, confidence and support for the party.

With the decision to proceed to the Supreme Court, the APC indicated that it would continue its legal challenge against Tambuwal’s election until the available judicial process is exhausted.
