Gov Yahaya Bello Promises Better Performance in Second Term
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has urged residents to continue supporting his administration, saying the achievements recorded during his first term would be surpassed if he was given another mandate.
Bello spoke in Lokoja during a meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, where the party’s state leadership resolved to adopt the indirect primary system for selecting its governorship candidate ahead of the November election.
The meeting was attended by Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar, among other party leaders.
Bello said his first-term achievements represented only a fraction of what he intended to accomplish if re-elected.
According to him, Kogi faced serious security challenges before he assumed office, including kidnapping, armed robbery and political thuggery.
He said his administration confronted those problems and recorded improvements in security across the state.
Bello also pointed to infrastructure development and what he described as greater inclusion of different groups in government as achievements of his administration.
He said unity of purpose had remained central to his leadership and argued that the same approach could contribute to national cohesion.
Bagudu praised APC members in Kogi for their support during the 2019 presidential election and urged them to repeat the effort in the governorship poll.
He described Bello as a dynamic leader and encouraged party members to support his bid for another term.
Kogi APC Chairman Abdullahi Bello also praised the party’s performance in the 2019 general elections, saying it had strengthened its political position in the state.
He argued that the party remained well organised ahead of the governorship election and said the reconciliation of previously divided factions had further improved its prospects.
The APC chairman also cited agriculture and security as areas in which he believed the governor had performed strongly.
Former factional APC chairman Haddi Ametuo said internal disagreements within the party had been resolved and announced that his political structure would support Bello’s re-election bid.
Ametuo said he had reconciled with the governor and was prepared to work with the recognised state executive of the party.
Bello maintained that a second term would allow his administration to consolidate existing programmes and deliver significantly more development across Kogi State.
