President Muhammadu Buhari has urged communities involved in persistent violence in Kaduna State to embrace peace, warning that mutual violence produces no winners but leaves losses on all sides.

Reacting to the latest killings in the state, Buhari expressed concern over what he described as the growing disregard for the sanctity of human life.

“I am deeply troubled by the fact that the sanctity of life is now treated with such reckless disregard that people derive joy in shedding the blood of others or perceived enemies,” the President said.

He lamented that compassion appeared to have been replaced by hatred among those responsible for the attacks, saying no responsible leader could be comfortable watching citizens kill one another because of ethnic or religious differences.

According to Buhari, violence could not provide a lasting solution to communal conflicts, particularly when people continued to engage in provocation, revenge and counter-revenge.

The President, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the Federal Government remained committed to protecting lives and property but stressed that affected communities must also cooperate with authorities in finding a lasting solution.

He said government efforts could be frustrated if communities failed to support investigations or allowed attempts to address the violence to become politicised.

Buhari warned that it would be difficult to permanently end the killings if communities resisted attempts to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the violence and their alleged sponsors.

He expressed concern that efforts to bring offenders to justice were sometimes interpreted through political, ethnic or religious considerations, making it harder for security agencies to enforce the law.

The President therefore appealed to residents of affected communities to reject revenge attacks, cooperate with security agencies and support efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace in Kaduna State.

He maintained that dialogue, cooperation and respect for the law remained essential to ending the cycle of violence and preventing further loss of lives.
