Breaking: Lionel Messi Wins Record Sixth Ballon d’Or
Lionel Messi has won a record sixth men’s Ballon d’Or award after being named the winner at a ceremony in Paris.
The Barcelona and Argentina forward finished ahead of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and Senegal international Sadio Mane to claim the prestigious individual honour.
The victory was Messi’s first Ballon d’Or since 2015 and took his overall tally to six, moving him one ahead of longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi, 32, succeeded Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric, who won the award the previous year.
The latest triumph further strengthened Messi’s place among the most decorated players in football history.
