Mane Dismisses Liverpool Fatigue Fears, Says ‘It Is All in the Head’
Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has played down concerns that the club’s demanding fixture schedule could leave players exhausted, insisting that overcoming fatigue is largely a matter of mentality and proper recovery.
Liverpool face a hectic period with 11 matches scheduled within 34 days, beginning with their Premier League encounter against Brighton at Anfield.
The Reds’ participation in the League Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar has added to an already crowded domestic and European schedule.
Mane, however, believes Liverpool have both the mentality and squad depth required to cope with the workload.
“Honestly, I think it is all in the head,” Mane said. “The tiredness is in the head, so as long as the body recovers well, I think it is not difficult for us to play every single game.”
The Senegal international added that he would always be ready whenever manager Jurgen Klopp needed him.
“When they need me, I will be ready for the team to give everything,” he said.
Mane acknowledged that Klopp would ultimately decide which players feature in each match but stressed that his responsibility was to prepare himself every day.
The forward also expressed confidence in Liverpool’s squad, saying the club has enough quality to handle the demanding run of fixtures.
“We are Liverpool. We have a big squad, we have many players who can play and so much quality,” Mane said.
He added that playing a large number of matches was unavoidable for a club hoping to compete for trophies on several fronts.
“It’s part of football. We have to deal with it and play these games if we want to be successful. Without the games, you cannot win the trophies,” he said.
Mane stressed the importance of remaining focused and recovering properly between matches as Liverpool continue to compete in the Premier League, Champions League, domestic cups and Club World Cup.
