Chelsea vs Inter Milan: Caballero Saves the Day for Blues in Penalty Shootout
Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez has been cleared of any serious injury after suffering an ankle knock during the club’s pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich.
The Algerian international was forced off during the first half of City’s 3-2 victory in Miami after a challenge from Bayern defender Chris Richards.
Mahrez, who had recently joined City from Leicester City for a club-record £60 million, was later pictured wearing a protective boot, raising concerns over his availability for the Community Shield against Chelsea.
However, Manchester City confirmed that scans showed no significant damage to his left ankle.
“Riyad Mahrez has been given the all-clear to return to training later this week after picking up an ankle knock,” the club said.
City added that the 27-year-old could be available for selection for the Community Shield if his recovery continued as expected.
Mahrez’s replacement, Bernardo Silva, went on to score twice as Manchester City came from behind to defeat the German champions 3-2.
The positive injury update came as a boost to manager Pep Guardiola ahead of the start of the new season.
